The references to the Dunn Family in Frederic's Diaries
1881 & 1882
I think that the Miss Dunn referred to in the diaries in 1881 is Alice Dunn who was a year older than Lily. Alice married Jim Hyde, like her father a commercial traveller.
It appears that Frederic only became interested in Lily after Uncle Jim came on the scene. The 1882 diary is not as detailed as 1881 and may not record all "the goings on". It is possible that Lily was not at home during this period. She was not at home on the 1881 Census.
